SWiTCH2MOVE (S2M) is one of the leading organisations in Netherland dedicated to the well-being of people with Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and older people living with Dementia. S2M is committed to these groups by offering combined dance exercise programs with the aim of improving: physical functions, thinking skills and general health and wellbeing. The main mission of S2M is to empower individuals and help restore a balance between the body and mind, and tackle health issues.

In this context, ‘dance’ is seen in all its multi-facets as having a significant role to play in the health and wellness of individuals, communities, and the general public. S2M supports that dancing can provide vulnerable people with tools to cope with their condition and creatively solve everyday challenges. Past research has demonstrated that learning certain movements or choreographies stimulates the brain and dance was found to be the only activity among other, such as cycling and walking, which were associated with a decrease in predispotion for dementia (Verghese et al., 2003). In addition, dance is a social activity and making real contact has a positive influence on emotional well-being. Interestingly, dancers are not the only ones who may be benefited from these classes. Informal caregivers may also be benefited due to the increased fun and connection with their patients and the decrease in stress.

S2M researches and develops its method, based on scientific studies, that combine dance and music very thoughtfully and which can then be delivered both online and offline.

This course offers an introduction to the key modules of S2M method developed during 10 years of experience in the field. The modules are: Physical, Mental, Social and Wellbeing.
